A DAY IN THE LIFE
“Living Naturally You”
Real People Real Answers

What’s your name?
My name is Shren! Or @ShrenAKO on twitter

 How old are you?
I turned 24 years old July 14th

 Where are you from?
Born in New Jersey, Raised in Oklahoma

What is your occupation?
Receptionist

5. How would you describe yourself?
I am God-fearing, naturally beautiful, intelligent, outgoing, energetic, family oriented, and love to be around loving people.

6. When did you first decide to become natural?
I decided to go natural the beginning of 2010, but I thought about the true beauty of it around 2008, and how I would go about doing it, but I did not have enough courage until July 2010. I told myself this is it, I’m doing the BIG CHOP. I only had about two months of new growth, because I had stopped getting perms May 2010. So, about a month and a half of new growth and I did the Big Chop, July 28th 2010. My first year with natural hair just past and I am more than excited and look forward to my two year mark.

If there was one word to describe your style what would it be?
Unique! I do all types of things with my hair. Especially on the weekends. I do updos, wash-n-go’s, puffs! You name it, I’ve done it. Before I was natural I had no clue that my hair was so beautiful and curly. I’ve always wanted big beautiful hair of my own, I would put weave in it in the past to accomplish this...but now! I have my own hair, and I cherish it! I thank God for it. Going natural is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Who are some people that inspire you the most?
There are plenty of vloggers on Youtube that inspire me. Such as, Iamsonotmyhair, BeautifulBlackBabyDoll, AfricanExport, and many many more. Bloggers also inspire me to do more with my hair, and new products. I actually encourage myself to stay natural, because I know that I will never go back to the hair damage (perms) again!

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Well, if I was speaking for my hair! Big, healthy, and gorgeous! For myself, I want whatever God has for me. I want to be able to look back at these years and smile, I want to explore the world, and be successful. The sky is the Limit for most, but I’m shooting for the stars.

What advice would you give to others who wanted to go natural or live a more natural based lifestyle?
I’ll say, “Go For It!!!” There’s nothing like healthy hair. First do your research, and know the steps you’ll need to take in order to healthfully maintain your natural curls or locs if you choose. Remember, No person’s hair is the same, so research products, and find out what works best on your hair. Read blogs, view YouTube videos, and follow your favorite gal or guy, and seek information. Once you’ve chose the natural hair route / journey, please remember that, WATER is your Hair’s Best Friend!

 What’s your favorite quote?
Don’t Remove the Kinks from your hair. Remove them from your brain! ~Marcus Garvey
